August
Bike Ride
On 04/08/2026 we held our first bike ride of the summer after our July ride had to be cancelled because of the extreme heat.
Our original plan was to cycle to Abington Meadows, but with the lovely weather and everyone feeling up for it, we decided to continue on to Billing Aquadrome instead. The route took us along the canal, onto Bedford Road, and then along Nene Valley Way, covering around 12 miles in total.
It was fantastic to get out and enjoy the warm weather, explore some of the beautiful parts of Northamptonshire that are often overlooked, and spend time together on a relaxed, social ride at an easy pace.
We’re planning to run these bike rides once a month, and our next ride is scheduled for Wednesday 26th August at 12:00 pm. We’d love to see you there
Wombling
Bridge wombles out in the community! Join us on Thursday mornings for Wombling. Doing our bit for the environment, a nice walk, great company and a natter. Then back to Bridge cafe for a cuppa, get involved.

Lizzy Farm Visit
11/08/2026
A very enjoyable day out for all members.
Sunny day and drive to Woodford Halse, a visit to Lizzie’s small holding. We fed and investigated her animals had a walk round the land, picked mint to make tea bags, set traps for the crayfish and enjoyed the space and company. All members full of joyful energy due to weather and just getting into some pleasant rural space.
Online ‘celebrity’ Gerald Stratford was on hand to talk to us about gardening and the health benefits of growing food and allotments generally. Gerald did a short outline of his career that came late in life when he became an unexpected social media star after his life in the merchant navy. He now has tens of thousands of followers on many platforms, has over 500000 viewers for his you tube videos and has an agent and employs a media creator. A really inspiring story from an ordinary, humble man who is enjoying his life and fame by doing something he loves. Followed by an entertaining Q and A session.
Lizzy had prepared a comprehensive lunch for us to enjoy, and we enjoyed this in the fresh air and sunshine surrounded by farm animal.
We made and jarred cabbage preserve before we came home. Members all very pleased to have a relaxing day out, being fed, have some company and to get a rare glimpse of the countryside
Gerald donated two of his published books to the Inspire.
