September 2024

St Andrew’s Football Tournament

What a fantastic day it was on 13th September at the annual St Andrews Football Tournament at St Andrew’s Healthcare.
Teams from various different services, including Northampton Town FC Community trust and Recovery House – Encompass Charity were in attendance.
Bridge entered 3 separate teams and they all played incredibly well!
One of our Bridge teams got through to the final and played against Recovery House, it was a fantastic game, but in the end Recovery House took home the winning Trophy. Very well done to you all!
The atmosphere and cheering one another on was fantastic as always. Well played everyone- see you again next year!

Table Tennis Tournament

On September 18th we held a Table Tennis Tournament in Northampton. What a day!
28 players took part in our tournament. All of differing abilities, some new to table tennis and others with a bit more playing experience, but all people who are in recovery and all contributed to an amazing atmosphere.
We had members from all 3 sites and Recovery House – Encompass Charity joined us. We love having the guys over from there – all great lads!
It was a long tournament, which finished at around 430pm, starting at 1230pm. Every player had at least 4 matches, and the standard was better than ever.
We had 2 trophies to play for – The Paul Murphy trophy, and the Plate trophy. Many of you may remember Paul, who worked for us and sadly passed away. His family donated funds towards a new table and this trophy. He was an amazing man and now we will forever play in his memory.
Eugene took home The Paul Murphy trophy in a brilliant final against Mick. Leon winning the Plate for a first ever Corby win v Zac. Another great game.
Thank you to everyone who made it a great day, particularly 2 volunteers Pete and Leo, who worked tirelessly in the kitchen- we were very busy!

Lift Club

Members took part in the first session of Lift Club, which is new to Bridge Northampton. They had a great time in the gym learning about posture, technique, and proper form of a heavy deadlift.
We even started looking at how to incorporate the “Clean & Jerk” move into a lift.
If you’d like to join lift club, speak to staff in the gym at Northampton Bridge.

Adult Learning

At Bridge we have many sessions put on in Collaboration with Adult Learning – Northamptonshire.
This Month We had various sessions across all 3 sites including Technology and Drama sessions in Northampton. We also had Cooking on a budget sessions with Bespiced by Rashmita in Wellingborough which were attended by members from Wellingborough and Corby. In the first Session members learnt how to make 3 different types of Pasta Bakes. They were simple to make and delicious!

Macmillan Bake off

We held our annual Bake off in Northampton to raise money for MacMillan on 25th and 26th September.
On 26th Members and staff made cakes for the event, and then on the 26th we had afternoon tea and there were many cakes to sample. Congratulations to Mark who won the prize for best decorated and to Jeff and Charlotte who shared the prize for Best tasting. All proceeds from the bake off and afternoon tea will go to macmillan.
