Christmas Events in Northampton

Over 80 members, volunteers and staff packed into Northampton on 12th December for our Christmas dinner.
Members from around the county, from all 3 sites, came together to enjoy a dinner and some great company.
Lots of full bellies by the end (which is what we like to see!)

On 18th December members, volunteers and staff from across the county then took part in the Christmas party in Northampton, Including the ever popular Bonkers Bingo, a christmas quiz, and of course the main event, the Silent Disco. There was a great atmosphere and some great dance moves were on show too. Much fun was had by all.

Wellingborough and Corby Christmas Events

In Corby, members applied to the Peer Led Fund so they could go to a restaurant and have a sit down meal with each other on 4th december.

The group all attended the meal, supported by staff and enjoyed a festive feast.

There was lots of laughter, fun and friendship.

An incredible day in Wellingborough on 5th December, as we held our Member Led Christmas event!
Our members created a Christmas Committee again and did the shopping, creating decorations, organising and delivering games, cooking and clearing up! They hosted the whole event, from beginning to end and they worked incredibly hard!
It was a fantastic day with a Quiz, Darts, Cotton Ball and Candy Cane Game!
Laughter filled the building and everyone had a wonderful day.
We even had some of our partnership agencies join us, including Family Support Link and North Northamptonshire Council, it is always a pleasure to have them come along!
Our members and volunteers go above and beyond every year for this event and we are incredibly proud of them all- the support and unity amongst them is inspiring! They all worked as a team and ensured the day ran as smoothly as possible. A very big well done and thank you to them all.

Christmas Crafts

Northampton staff arranged three workshops for members to enjoy.

Decoration making, Wreath making and Gift making!

Members made and decorated their own glass lanterns and tree decorations during the first workshop, with many bursting into Christmas songs throughout.

For the Christmas Wreath workshop, the table tennis room was transformed into a winter wonderland filled with holly, ivy, and fir tree branches for members to craft their very own wreath. All of the greenery was either foraged for by the members and staff, or donated, and there was plenty to go around.

Finally, a Gift making workshops where members made jewellery, clay sculptures, Christmas cards and more.

History

Historian and Academic, Dr Alan Clark came to Bridge in December to offer an “Introduction to Northamptons History” .

The event was set up with very short notice, but members jumped at the chance to spend the afternoon learning about their local history.

Our Training Room has never looked so busy as 16 members joined in.

The members were engrossed by the talk, and asked lots of questions relating to the talk.

It was so successful, that we didn’t want to waste the opportunity, and arranged a very last minute Historic Walk around Town with Alan. Members followed Dr Clark around the town, listening and engaging to his teachings. All of them were thrilled to be allowed access to some sites that the public may not usually get to see.

Following the success of these events, we have set up a weekly group with Alan to lead an educational group.

Table Tennis Tournament

(Wednesday 11th of December)

Members from around the county attended our Christmas table tennis tournament on Wednesday 11th of December.

We started with a group phase, with the top two going through to the cup, and the rest into the Plate. There was a great atmosphere and lots of skill on display.

We got down to our final four in each, with the Plate being between Kieran B, Kieran J, Leon, and Andrew. The 2 Kieran’s were victorious in the semis, with Kieran B taking his first competition trophy home after a great final.

In the Paul Murphy Shield we had Eugene, Charlie, John, and Mick, with John and Mick pulling through, it set us up for another great final that Mick eventually won.

Two brilliant tournaments but as always, the standout was the support everyone gave to each other, whether playing or non-players.

The Next tournament will be in March 2025

Redwell Christmas Round Robin Tournament

On Monday 9th of December, Bridge attended the Christmas football tournament at Redwell Leisure Centre. The tournament was run by Russell Lewis at Northampton Town Football Community Trust.

Bridge, Northampton Town FC Multi Disabled, and Recovery House attended. There was a total of four teams, with players mixing from different clubs. Each game lasted 10 minutes, there was some great football being played, but most of all everyone supported and

encouraged each other.

Towards the end of the session, there was an 11 a side game for the final 15 minutes which was a fantastic way to end the afternoon. Wellingborough (Redwell) football returns on Monday 6th of January and Northampton (Racecourse) returns on Friday 10th of January.
