July 2024

Family Day

On July 2nd and 3rd Bridge sites held our first family days in aid of Alcohol Awareness week. This was a chance for members to bring in friends, family and those close to them to show them where they spend their time and the support they are given by Bridge.

There was food, fun quizzes, Bingo and an all round good atmosphere.  It was lovely to spend time with members friends and family and show them just what we do.

We’re really pleased with how this has gone and it’s likely we will repeat this later in the year.

Annual Volunteer Day out

On July 3rd we took some of our wonderful volunteers and members to Skegness. The trip was a way of thanking our volunteers for all of their hard work and we were pleased to be able to take some members along too!
We had a great day and the sun even came out for us!
Thank you to all of you who volunteer at Bridge, you make a huge difference to the service and our members.

Sports Day

The Annual Bridge Sports Day took place at Bassetts Park in Wellingborough this year, with over 60 members and staff in attendance. The events included the infamous Rounders match, Welly Wanging, Long Jump, Egg & Spoon race, and the hilarious Fancy Dress relay.

The day saw all three sites battle it out, with lots of smiles, laughter, and a good dose of healthy competition. The sportsmanship and camaraderie was amazing, with all members cheering each other on regardless of teams or points.
Having said that, the scores were close, and Corby took the victory by just five points from Northampton, with Wellingborough coming in a close third.

Welly Wanging was an awesome event, with Caroline from Northampton achieving one of the highest throws, even though we were aiming for the longest throw. And rounders saw members really throwing themselves into the game, with many leaping to catch people out, members had obviously found the springs in their shoes after competing in the long jump. Luckily this year, there were NO injuries but all of us felt the aches in our bellies from laughing so much!!
It was also great to have Terry & Kev from S2S come along and join in the games.
Bring on 2025!

Public Health Outreach Day

On July 18th we had Wellbeing West Northants at Bridge in Northampton providing a variety of local services, assisting members with their healthcare.
The turnout from Northampton members was huge and it was nice to see members from both Wellingborough and Corby attending also. Around 62 people attended and engaged with the services on offer which included:
  • Opticians
  • S2S
  • Hep C Trust
  • TB testing
  • Talking Therapies
  • Sexual Health
  • Dentists
  • Health Checks

Health checks proved popular and were quickly booked out and so they are now planning on returning soon with more staff to put on another session. Many members left happy after being told that their Livers were healthy, or being prescribed new glasses.

Everyone who took part in the day received an informative goody bag which also included a voucher for a free meal that day which went down a treat.

International Remembrance Day

On July 24th we held an International Remembrance Day event. We have been doing this event annually for a few years now and it is an opportunity to remember those who have lost their lives to substance use.
We heard from lots of our members, volunteers and staff who shared their testimonies, poems and songs. This was then followed by a light-hearted quiz and a delicious lunch!
The event was powerful, as always. We would like to say a big thank you to all who got up to speak/perform. Also a big thanks to Terry from S2S for helping to organise!
