This year we had planned to host a big Christmas event in Northampton and to invite Bridge members from across the county. Previously, these events had proved to be very popular but the onset of Covid in 2020 meant that such events had to be cancelled.
Unfortunately, the increase in infections and the prevalence of the new Omicron variant in the community, caused us to reconsider the idea of a countywide event. In order to ensure the safety of all, we decided to hold three separate events and consequently reduce the number of members at each event.
Despite restrictions, demands were high, and each event sold out quickly.
Northampton Bridge:
A Christmas Dinner and a party took place in Northampton on 15th December. A beautiful and plentiful dinner was provided by our brilliant café staff, despite the oven door falling off!
Games, quizzes, bingo and karaoke provided the entertainment. We discovered that we have some excellent singers in our midst.
£187.60 was raised on the day, which will be donated to a charity. The recipient is yet to be decided as we are asking those who donated to choose where they would like the money to go.
On Tuesday the 22nd of December we held a children’s Christmas party at Northampton for our members. Again, this was a huge success. We had 18 children attend ranging in ages from a few months old to 12 years of age.
We were very fortunate to have Santa and his helper elf in attendance, who were able to give lovely presents to all the children who attended. The gifts were kindly donated by Billing Aquadrome, who we would like to thank for their generosity and for thinking of us!
Wellingborough Bridge:
Wellingborough Bridge had their Christmas dinner on 17th December, which followed the same theme as Northampton.
They are also having another Christmas event on 24th December, this will be a quieter low-key affair with a buffet lunch.
Corby Bridge:
Sadly, Corby’s event scheduled for 22nd December, has had to be postponed due to the lift being out of action, and as the office is on the 8th floor it would not be practical for it to take place. Despite being disappointed our members are understanding and are looking forward to it being rearranged.
We would like to thank our members, volunteers and staff for making all the events successful and happy occasions.
